School Policy
Before Lessons
- Physical Requirements: Activities like Surfing, SUP, Windsurfing, and Kiteboarding are strenuous and require reasonable flexibility, agility, and endurance. Consult your doctor before participating. Inform your instructor of any medical conditions. All participants must be able to swim; no exceptions.
Booking
Reservations: Pre-registration is required to guarantee your preferred lesson day and time. Walk-up lessons at activity locations are not available.
Payments: Lessons are prepaid, with credit cards charged at booking. Prices exclude a 4.17% state tax and a 5% service charge. We accept MasterCard, VISA, and AMEX; personal checks are not accepted.
Cancellations: A 24-hour notice is required for cancellations. Payments and deposits are generally non-refundable.
Waiver Forms
- All students must sign a release waiver or a declaration of fitness. Minors under 18 require a parent or guardian’s signature. Students under 10 must have a parent or legal guardian present during the lesson.
Medical and Fitness
- Participants are responsible for assessing their fitness for the activity. Always bring necessary medications and inform staff immediately of any issues during the activity. Do not consume alcohol before the lesson; instructors may refuse service to anyone under the influence.
Privacy
- Sessions may be photographed or videotaped by staff. Notify us beforehand if you have privacy concerns. Images may be used for training, evaluation, promotional purposes, or made available for purchase.
Equipment
- You may bring your own equipment. Students are responsible for any preventable accidental damage to equipment. Rental equipment is the renter’s responsibility; damage or loss will incur charges up to the item’s MSRP.
Lessons
Preparation: Bring sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, drink, snack, and any other desired items.
Cancellations: No-shows are non-refundable. A doctor’s note is required for same-day cancellations due to illness to avoid charges.
Behavior: Our Kid’s camps and lessons adhere to a “Play Nice policy.” Participants displaying aggressive behavior will be ejected without a refund.
Safety: Instructors have the final say over wind, wave, and surf conditions for safety reasons.
Lesson Content
- Lessons include preparation, equipment setup, weather evaluation, and theory, which are part of the lesson time. Not all time is spent on the water; some lessons may be entirely on land. Individual progression varies; no specific results are guaranteed within a set timeframe.
Lesson Duration
Punctuality: Arrive at least 30 minutes early for clinics or private lessons. Instructors wait a maximum of 30 minutes for late arrivals; group lessons cannot wait for late students.
Private Lessons: If a group lesson has only one participant, it becomes a shorter private lesson at no extra charge.
Early Termination: If a student or instructor ends a lesson early due to fatigue, cold, safety concerns, or other reasons, no refund is provided.
Adjustments to Duration
- Communicate any concerns during the lesson to the instructor promptly. Extensions may be possible but are not guaranteed and may incur additional charges. Instructors cannot offer free time or refunds; contact the office for such matters.
Cancellation by Us
- If we cancel a lesson due to bad weather, a rain check will be issued for rescheduling. Rain checks can often be converted to gift certificates. Refunds for canceled lessons are prorated based on the used portion of the service.
Post Lesson
Tipping: Gratuities of 10% to 20% are customary and appreciated. Where possible, please tip your instructor directly at the end of your lesson. Cash tips are greatly appreciated. Instructors are not allowed to accept verbal gratuities added to credit card bills. You may call in to office to add a tip to your credit card bill. Instructors should not be tipped in alcohol, intoxicants or contraband.
Feedback: Written letters of appreciation are welcome. Direct any complaints regarding lessons or instructor conduct to the office immediately.
